On one day, we were able to go to a beach and relax. It was about two hours away from Port au Prince, so it was quite a drive. The way down, we stopped in Titanyen for church at Grace Village, so it was only an hour drive to the beach. The way back, we drove the whole way with no (planned) stops. We stayed at the beach until around 3:30 and then started back to the house. We wanted to be back before dark.

About twenty minutes after leaving the beach, there was a strange noise. We banged on the metal cage and the driver stopped to check out the noise. We had lost both tires on one side. We had no choice but to pull over. Luckily it was a safe area, so we were able to just kind of mull around until the tap-tap was ready to go. Continue reading →

On two mornings, our group went into Cite Soleil to deliver fresh water. Cite Soleil is considered one of the more dangerous places in the world. People don’t go there. At one point, we told someone we went there and they asked if we were joking. If you don’t live in Cite Soleil, you just don’t go there. It has a terrible gang problem and there are shootings, muggings, fights, and everything else you could imagine. So like I said, we went in twice.

Healing Haiti is the only group that delivers free water into Cite Soleil. We filled up a huge milk truck at the water fill station and headed in. We would regularly be at the fill station for over an hour waiting for our truck’s turn at the water.

The first district we visited (Cite Soleil is divided into around 34 different districts) was 17. 17 is going to be the site of a church that Healing Haiti is currently building. Before we walked to see the build site, we delivered the water.

The class went to the Museum of London today. They’re supposed to have a nice section dedicated to WWII. We got there, walked all the way through and found out it’s being remodeled!
It was a nice little museum though.

Today, the class went to a university’s WWII Archives. It was really interesting because we actually got to touch and read things. I read a pamphlet that was given to American soldiers about Britain and one given to British soldiers about Americans!

After spending the morning there, we had a break until our afternoon lecture about North Africa and Japan and stuff. It was a really boring early part of the day. I took no pictures at all. Sorry.

The interesting part of the day started at 5. Morgan and I hopped on a tube to the O2 for the Hillsong Conference. It didn’t start until 7:30, but we decided to go early and get dinner and good seats, which we didn’t really get.
